The Story

I traveled beyond Hanalei and Princeville along Kauai's north shore for the November 2021 XL swell on a mission to capture a couple different images. As it turns out it hit my normal big wave haunt Pe'ahi nice and clean, but the energy here was pretty frenetic. The waves were disorganized and coming in from all directions due to the terrain of the coast and the bottom, causing these hard to anticipate but occasionally wonderful splashes to occur. 

I was shooting handheld, tracking promising surge coming in sideways and tried to predict which ones would connect and do something interesting. It was a bit of a race against time, as the rain was coming in fast from the east and the sun was setting in the west. This particular splash happened right in front of me, launching spray twenty feet or more into the air with a violent 'WHOOOOMPH". Good times!
