Liquid Jade

This incredible scene was taken over the southern coast of Iceland from a small Cessna 180 in some particularly windy conditions. Driving through here, you'd never guess what the landscape looks like from above. Incredible braided rivers, merging and diverting, molding and shaping the land as they flow towards the ocean. Here, I loved how the bright water seemed to glow in the afternoon light against the black rock and sand of the landscape. The beautiful turquoise colors here are glacial runoff. As the massive mountains of ice expand and contract over time, they grind the rock underneath into a ultrafine powder known as glacial flour. This flour mixed with the melted glacier is turquoise (don't ask me why).
