The Story

This is "THE SHOT"! This is "THE BEAR CATCHES A SALMON ON THE LIP OF BROOKS FALLS"! Photographers and bear lovers flock from to Katmai National Park from all over to witness this spectacle and try their hand at capturing it. I expected it to be the grail shot I spent my entire trip chasing, my entire trip obsessing about and fiending for. Got it on the first day. What a relief! I love this shot, and was excited to capture more than one salmon in the air but I was also happy to be freed from those shackles to spend more time shooting the other scenes. It's nice to be able to immerse myself in a place and really get to know it. Tough to do when I've got THE shot in my head. Check! In camera, out of head.
