The Story

The stars of Katmai were out this evening! Grazer and her two third season cubs are fishing on the lip of the falls, while 2020 fat bear champion Bear Force One sits at the base. Meanwhile, beyond them is the most dominant male bear of the past decade in 856. Finally, in the "office" on the far bank is Popeye, the buffest bear you've ever seen in your life! Grazer is particularly fierce, and is known to charge fisherman with salmon on the line to take their fish. She's also very short tempered with other bears when she has cubs. I very nearly literally ran into them while alone on the trail one evening around 10pm. The two cubs came barreling around a blind corner, wrestling with one another and mom wasn't far behind of course. I backed off the trail as far as I could get to let them pass. The lead cub gave me a bit of side eye, but thankfully Grazer completely ignored me and my compliments about her motherly skills.
