Ah, fog! I've always loved its ability to simplify a scene with its misty, ethereal nature. Around the San Francisco bay area, the locals call this mysterious creature 'Karl', and it seems to take on a life of its own, wrapping its loving embrace over the city and surrounding hills nearly every evening in the summer.
In 2022, I had three full days to explore Mt Tamalpais and get to know Karl a little bit. It's tricky to get right, you have to try and judge how high the fog will be when the light is nice in the evenings and pick your spot accordingly. Choose poorly and you'll be engulfed, or too high to find a nice view. I got a little better each evening at this game, and captured this image on the third try. I love how it expresses a bit of that movement and how it slides around and between the trees on the hillside.
